Made in U.S.A. "War Model"

■Product Details

The third installment in the SCSC (SUGAR CANE Super “Denim” Collectibles) series by SUGAR CANE. Commemorating the brand's 50th anniversary, this new "Made in U.S.A." War Model returns to its roots, with production based in America, the birthplace of denim workwear.

The denim fabric is produced in Japan, using American cotton and based on the 1943 model. It faithfully recreates the uneven and rugged slub characteristic of the immature spinning techniques of the time. Its robust and powerful appearance revives the charm unique to vintage denim in the present day.

Sewing is carried out at our own factory in the United States, not merely replicating, but merging the characteristics of multiple wartime pieces that have been identified. From the patterns and component structure to the stitching, it has been reconstructed and completed as a “1940’s Special Model” with original elements added.

The pocket bags are particularly noteworthy. Reproducing the twill check lining of a vintage jacket made by ROUGH WEAR's civilian label "ROUGH-IN" during the wartime 1940s, it is adopted as a flannel pocket. The thoroughly crafted details enhance the product's completeness.

This model, a fusion of deep understanding of vintage and modern reconstruction, is a special pair of jeans for collectors and all users who seek truly valuable denim.

■SUPER "DENIM" COLLECTIBLES

The SCSC (SUGAR CANE Super “Denim” Collectibles) label, launched with Yuichi Fukutomi, a key person at SUGAR CANE, at its core, bringing together denim specialists.

In the 1st and 2nd collections, based on deadstock super vintage items that are now difficult to obtain, the unique "individuality" of each piece was faithfully reproduced. Not only were the details of custom parts replicated, but four types of denim fabric that existed during the wartime period were also revived, earning high acclaim for their thorough reproducibility.

For the 3rd collection, celebrating the brand's 50th anniversary, rare "Made in U.S.A." jeans produced at our own factory in America were planned. The attractive details found in wartime vintage were reconstructed, and a special model was completed by merging elements from multiple individual pieces while adding original elements.

SCSC redefines the value of denim by not merely reproducing it, but by deeply understanding the essence of vintage and re-proposing it to the modern era. It is a highly complete product that fascinates collectors and core denim fans alike.

SUGAR CANE. As you can tell from its name with such an American influence, this brand is the very first clothing label out of Japan for the American market. In 1965 when the U.S. Army properly intervened in the Vietnam War, Toyo Enterprises, the creator of Sugar Cane, was established for those involved with U.S. military bases in Japan. At that time, the company was a supplier for American soldiers in Japan and in charge of whole distribution for military surplus throughout Japan. When the Vietnam War ended in 1975, the company made a fresh start as an apparel maker for domestic market and that’s when the brand name “Sugar Cane” was given by the officer who was stationed at the Army base. Although Sugar Cane was born in Japan, its spirit and creation are true to proper American manner from the experience learned at the Army base. By mainly utilizing the denim materials, the ultimate American style symbol, the label has been manufacturing true workwear ever since.
