The M-65 parka was created as the successor model to the M-51 parka. While originally constructed from cotton-nylon oxford fabric, this model uses "ERDL camouflage" patterned cotton ripstop fabric, which was used by special forces.

"ERDL" is an abbreviation derived from the camouflage pattern developed by the U.S. Army's "Engineer Research and Development Laboratory." The original fabric, uniquely reproduced by Buzz Rickson's, has been treated with a water-repellent finish, combining classic military design with functionality. Its long silhouette also makes it an excellent windproof rainwear.
